New Store(s) and more for three Calgary neighbourhoods

Quarry Bay is currently working with one of Western Canada’s most respected brands, Calgary Co-op, on three innovative mixed-use re-developments in Calgary, as well as a new development. The developments will create over $2.4 million square feet of retail, restaurant, office and residential space, revitalizing underutilized areas in four strategic urban locations.

Each of the redevelopments will see a new Co-op store being built, along with additions of residences, retail and office space to the existing properties to create dynamic centres where area residents can live, work and enjoy new amenities. Special attention has been given to the phasing of each project to ensure that Co-op and related services can remain open during construction, until such time that a replacement store is complete. Careful consideration has been given to the design and placement of buildings to reflect the style of the individual communities as well as to minimize any shadowing impact on surrounding residents. The projects will add appropriate density and growth while ensuring there are additional services available to better serve the area neighbourhoods. The projects also have a focus on sustainable, community focused design that will bring value to the community as a whole.

Over the past several months, our team has spent time working with various community associations as talking to residents about the proposed redevelopments in the neighbourhoods of Oakridge, Dalhousie and Brentwood. We participated in a number of Co-op in-store sessions where we let shoppers know about the proposed plans and gathered feedback on the projects. Open House events were also held in each of the communities, allowing residents the opportunity to look at designs, ask questions (about everything from architecture to traffic studies and Co-op services) and share ideas. We were pleased with both the turnout and support each of the projects has received during these engagement activities as well as the thoughtful comments and questions we’ve had with area residents.

We anticipate applications for development permits and land-use (where applicable) to be submitted to the City of Calgary in the coming weeks. Updates and detailed information for each redevelopment project can be found here:

We are excited about the changes and value these redevelopments will bring to these three well-established neighbourhoods and are proud to be working with Calgary Co-op and great Calgary communities on these projects.
